The Greatest Gifts...
While it doesn't quite qualify for non-traditional colors, perhaps it qualifies for
non-traditional thinking this time of year. I wanted to take a few minutes this morning and reflect on what is truly important before I start bring up totes of Christmas decorations and decorating, ordering online Christmas presents, wrapping gifts, and making my Christmas cards.
I thought perhaps it would make all of the stress that we have made part of Christmas more bearable if I got a little perspective. :)
Ohhhh and thank you, Wendy. ♥
I finally had a good excuse to use my friend, Wendy's photos that she took of Evan's little hands when he was 6 months old. She took some amazing pictures and what a perfect picture to go along with my page.

Boy, Oh Boy...Train Bags
I finished my first two train bags. I made them exactly the same since the new babies are going to live so far apart it shouldn't be an issue.
This is the outside of the bag. It washed up beautifully. The scallops frayed perfectly! :)On the inside of the bag instead of using the train fabric, I used a blue/white gingham for a different look. Now it's like have two bags in one!
I had a few extra squares sitting on the table and I had an AH-HA moment. Those moments don't come very often, so I am excited when they do occur.
My thought....are you ready?..... CHANGING PAD! I know how much I dislike having babies bare button touch public changing stations or if I'm changing baby on someone's carpet to have a little faucet turn on in the middle of the diaper change and get their carpet/bed wet.
It's pretty simple just 9 squares.

It's the Baby Train
If you go over to Krista's Cards & Things Challenge blog this week, there is a GREAT color challenge. I LOVE these colors together.....
I thought I would get a start on all the little boy cards that I will be needing using the color challenge.
I designed a little train. I made the body of the train 'free hand' and punched wheels w/ the 1" and 3/4" circle punches. No train is complete w/o little puffs of steam. I used the itty bitty punch pack punch that is obviously a puff of steam. :) Just to give the card and little sparkle, I added a little rhinestone to each puff.

Toddler Safe Ornaments
In the last year, Evan has made a lot of progress. He is a LOT more active, aware of his surroundings and a more "typical" toddler. I don't think the Christmas tree is going to be untouched by any means.
Rather than putting on glass balls that Evan can break or he can cut himself on, I decided to pull out some retired DSP that I thought would make pretty Christmas decorations. This is the Wintergreen DSP--I think it was from back in 2007. Aren't the colors pretty? I think it's Sage Shadow, Certainly Celery, Soft Sky and Always Artichoke. I rummaged through my retired ribbon and found Soft Sky stitched ribbon. (I'm glad I never get rid of anything...LOL)
These are so quick and easy to make. It wouldn't take long to make a bunch for your tree this season. :)

Mr. Penguin meets MDS
Today, I sat down and played w/ My Digital Studio and challenged myself to make a card. I LOVE punch cards that I see on everyone's blogs, but I myself am not very imaginative. I thought I would try out someone familar--like Mr. Penguin and see if I could get him made. Well... I did pretty good, but I could not figure out how to connect his ear muffs. LOL. I guess Mr. Penguin glues them on. :)

Royal Blog Tour Candy
I didn't choose a stamp set for making fancy cards and gifts, but I rather choose a stamp set that was more me. No...not stinky....silly! LOL I wasn't sure if my projects would be as appreciated as those that were absolutely stunning. Thanks for making this simple girl feel like she was part of the big league! ♥
Now on to the good stuff-----

Thanksgiving Table Runner
Over the weekend, I took the time to make my first quilted table runner. I didn't have a pattern so I just sort of winged it. I found this material at Walmart and decided that it was definitely a Thanksgiving table runner. The plain colors are really pretty--cajun craze and more mustard. Now do I keep it or give it as a gift? hmmmm....
Here's the front of the runner with all of the rag edges:

The Castle of Pun Fun
For this royal occasion, I have chosen the set, Pun Fun. It's a cute little set that has a little bit of everything making it versatile.
Now on to the Royal Projects......
My first project is a card and nugget tin set using the little skunk and the Play Date dsp. This is my favorite stamp in the sets. I'm partial to skunks. I think it was growing up watching Looney Tunes w/ Pepe LePew.
It's amazing how that little stem holds up that great big flower on the card isn't it?! I couldn't help myself. The bigger the flower the better.
My second project is for those who are feeling a little under the weather. I made a Soup Caddy and matching card. Campbell's Chicken Noodle Soup is the cold/flu food at our house. Everyone loves it and when you aren't feeling well and your nose is stuffy--it just hits the spot.
The little whale looks so happy colored in Pear Pizzazz. I love the Celebrations dsp. Isn't it bright?!
My Last Project is a little 'thank ewe'. I made a box just big enough for a bottle of Bath & Body Works Handsoap. My favorite scent--Fresh Market Apple. Yum! I want to give it so someone that deserves a big 'Thank Ewe!" from a cute little lamb.
Here's the top of the box... A little satin bow to finish it off.
MY ROYAL BLOG CANDY
****Please leave a comment including your email address so that I can contact you if your chosen. The drawing will be on November 9th, 2010. I will contact you via email or stop back to check to see if you are the winner! :)Thank you for visiting my castle.
The Color Purple
Maybe that is one reason I rarely use purple for card making--or maybe it's because purple is not one of my favorite colors. Perhaps you can tell that I like pink. lol
Anyway, this bag is for Kari, she is turning 13 years old this week and purple IS her favorite color.
This bag is 3 squares by 3 squares on the front and then it is 3 squares x 2 squares on the sides and bottom. It is a great size for sleepovers, Phy. Ed. or TRICK OR TREATING. Awhile back I made a bag for another one of Riley Kate's friend, Chelsea. She used her bag to carry her Halloween Loot. :)
Here's a close up of the fabric I used.
Riley Kate's bag has been a hit with all of her friends. She has polled every girl in her 7th grade class on what their favorie color is so I see LOTS of bag making during this school year.

Fall Colors
This card was inspired by Krista's Sketch Challenge this week over at Cards & Things. It was a simple sketch just perfect for a colorful fall card.
If you get time this week, go play along. It's amazing to see all the different cards from one sketch.
Card Recipe:
Stamp Set: Autumn Splendor, Itty Bitty Backgrounds (retired)--you could use use the Log Cabin Smooch Spritz in it's place.
Cardstock: Cajun Craze, Old Olive, Very Vanilla and More Mustard
Ink: Staz On-Black, Early Espresso, Old Olive, More Mustard and Cajun Craze
DSP: More Mustard Polka Dots (Regals Stack)
Accessories: Big Shot, Lattice Square Embossing Folder, Dimensionals, Twine and Aqua Painter
Evan's 2nd Birthday Favor
Evan loves Sesame Street. So I decided that the party favors would be Cookie Monster and Elmo. Cookie Monster will of course have cookies. Elmo will have Goldfish crackers. I will share a Elmo bag after I go to town and buy some Goldfish. Evan loves to watch Elmo's World w/ Elmo and Dorothy and even though he can't eat Goldfish, I thought it would be cute for those who can. :)
For those of you that would like to make Cookie Monster, Pacific Point works great! I was stressing about using my Brilliant Blue up. YES, I ordered some to keep on hand after it retired, but Pacific Point is actually perfect.
Card Recipe:
Pacific Point, Whisper White and Basic Black Cardstock
Accessories: Circle Scissor Plus and Glass Mat, 1 3/4" Circle Punch, 1" Circle Punch, Scallop Circle Die, Big Shot, Chocolate Chip ink, Scallop Circle Punch and a pencil eraser.
