Watering Can Quilt

This month, Mary Jo Price-Williams asked me to be a guest designer on the Late Night Stampers group.  Well to say I was honored would be a bit of an understatement.    What a great group of stampers! 

Mary Jo sent me a list of the month's challenges and this week we are focusing on water.   The first place my mind went when I thought of a water project was that I would like to do a watering can quilt card. 

I don't know where these ideas come from, but here it is:

Next time, I plan on "stitching my quilt" BEFORE I emboss it! I am guessing it wil be A LOT easier.  *giggle*

God's Opinion Baby Quilt

It's crazy how quickly the years pass.  I cannot believe that my daughter is a high school senior.  I am excited for her to strike out on her own, but my heart aches at the thought of letting her go off on her own.  Dani told me a few weeks ago that a girl in her senior class was expecting a baby.  I was young when I had Dani, but this girl is only seventeen and how quickly a little one takes over your life and you are forced to grow up. I was happy to hear though that this girl was going to have her baby with the support of her boyfriend.

 Yesterday, Dani came home and told me that Ashley's water had broke and that she was on total bedrest at an area hospital.  She was just 24 weeks along.  My water broke at 33 weeks with Riley Kate and I thought I was going crazy after 2 weeks in the hospital.  I was 25 years old then and knew how hard it was for me to lay there.  Oh this poor girl.  My heart immediately went out to her. Such a grown up situation with a potential for such heartbreak. 

 Today, Dani came home and told me that this afternoon, Ashley had a baby girl, Madisyn. She said that mom and baby were doing fine. Dani didn't have any details, but I know that little family needs prayers.

I snuck away for a few minutes this afternoon and made a baby card....

Two Shades of PINK- Quilted Card

 There are two shades of PINK at Krista's Cards & Things Challenge Blog this week.  These are the types of challenges that make us pink lovin' gals grin. 

I have a workshop coming up and I know that a couple of the ladies are quilters.  I do not quilt and well I knew I wasn't going to wow them w/ my abilites with fabric. I thought I would try my hand at "paper quilting".  I went online and Googled quilt patterns.  Omgosh, I would love to do a whole mess of different cards.  There are so many amazing different patterns to try.  I had a hard time deciding, so I chose more of a beginning design for me. 

I cut squares that are 3/4" x 3/4".  You may not be able to tell, but squares are a mixture of DSP (Blushing Bride and the retired Sweet Pea) and cardstock. I glued all the squares down onto a piece of scrap cardstock.  I cheated and I added the Rose Red triangles last. I didn't want to risk gaps and thought when I ran it through the Big Shot to quilt--emboss it--you would never be able to tell.  :)

I added a birthday sentiment from the set On Your Birthday and a satin bow with a button and linen thread in the center.  I found a couple quilting pins in my stash and inserted through the backside of the bow under the button.  If I were to send this card, I would probably snip off the sharp points of the pins. 

Hint for making perfect tails on the end of the cardstock w/ the sentiment---a square punch!  Try it--it works PERFECT!  :)

Camo Quilt-A Work in Progress

A while back, I made a pink camo diaper bag for a friend's sister-in-law. This same friend asked if I would make a matching baby quilt. I don't sew. I have made a few quilted bags using our Scallop Square Die and the Big Shot, but sew a quilt....um no!

Well I decided to be brave. The worse thing that would happen is that I would be buying the material that my friend supplied from her and apologizing for my lack of sewing ability.
Last night, I finished sewing squares together (FINALLY). Omgosh, there's a lot of little squares in a quilt.

Today, I will be using You Tube to find good instructions (and easy I hope) on how to bind a quilt.

Friend to Friend Easel Card

I have been wanting to try the Easel Card for a couple months, but it always seems to take a back burner to all the other cards/projects that I want to make. Well NOT today! :) Today, I decided I wanted to make an quilt/easel card. Are you surprised with the quilt? HA! I bet not.
I participated in a group buy for 2010 calendars and thought that the little calendar was a nice addition to the card. I wish I would have bought more....these would be great cards for everyone that you didn't get Christmas cards made for.

Card Recipe:

Stamps: Teeny Tiny Wishes, I {Heart} Hearts (Occasions Mini)

CS: Bordering Blue, Chocolate Chip, Whisper White

Ink: Chocolate Chip and Stampin' Write Marker

DSP: Bella Birds RETIRED :( I love this paper!

Accessories: Heart to Heart Punch, Paper Piercer, Mat Pack, Scallop Circle Punch, 1 3/8" Circle Punch, Scallop Trim Border (SAB)

How to make an Easel Card:

Cut one piece of CS 4 1/4 X 5 1/2 (this is the front of your card)

Cut one piece of CS 4 1/4 X 11 & score at 2 3/4 and 5 1/2 (this will be your easel and bottom of card)

Adhere the 2 3/4 X 4 1/4 scored square to the top of the back of your project.

The first score line (2 3/4) should be a mountain fold the second score (5 1/2) will be a valley fold this will make your card stand up.

Decorate as Desired.

September SWAP

I know-I know, it's half way through October and I am just posting these. The world has gone completely crazy at my house. 3 kids + 1 husband (only working part-time) + 1 house being remodeled + 1 first birthday party + 1 BIG Stamp-A-Stack + 1 unorganized mom=crazy house. LOL

Christmas Quilt Cards

I love making these quilt cards. They are so simple and look amazing when they are finished. I am a little messy with the 2 way glue, but it is so easy to get the squares stuck down tight and you can wiggle them into place if they are a little crooked.

I am trying to use up some old DSP--I didn't think I had a lot until I started finding packages stuck here and there when I was moving into my Stampin' Room. NOW I know I have a problem--I had to have a 'paper hoarder', because I AM a paper hoarder. LOL The addiction is not limited to paper; however, so I need to stamp to make room to buy new things. It's a WIN-WIN situation right there!

Ohh, I am looking for creative ways to mat the SU! wide oval...any suggestions? It's a little plain w/o something behind it, but I was completely clueless on where to go w/ it.

Quilt Cards

I have been wanting to make a quilt card since I seen the first one come through my yahoo groups MONTHS ago. Tonight, I had the kids down early and my husband was working down at his parent's farm. PLAY TIME FOR MOM!

I don't have the SU! Big Shot so I had to improvise w/ the machine I have, but I got it figured out and I love the results! :) Isn't stamping fun???!!

Recipe:

CS: barely banana, bordering blue, chocolate chip and whisper white

Stamps: Oval All

DSP: retired Bella Birds

Accessories: oval punch, scallop oval, top note die, non SU! ribbon, square punch, non SU! flowers, rhinestone brads, non SU! embossing folder.
